THE DIRTY ONION TONES
Sometime last month I was chillin at Make Believe Studio in a stoned coma being a couch zombie on the internet. That whole week prior the homie DJ Stryke of Dirty Diamonds had been pitching me all these remixes he was doing. One after another, a new remix every time. He was on a roll. But he had a mental block. He didn’t know what to remix next. There was a remix I had been sitting on for a while, or rather, a song that I wanted to remix. It was Pharoahe Monch’s freestyle skit at the end of De La Soul’s “Oooh”. I present him the idea to remix this one, I had challenged him to a producers dual since I too wanted to remix it also. I figured it would be a cool thing to do, both of us remix the same track, both of us having different production styles. Then it struck me, why not do it every month, a new track, have like an online “beat battle”. And why not put it online so our peers could see. A little competition never hurt anyone. I figured it would light a fire under our asses to makes some ill shit. It started with just Stryke and I. Now we turned it into a monthly compilation. Only now the roster consists of 10+ producers from all different musical backgrounds and genres. Some from out of state, and soon a few from out of the country! The exciting part is that this project was recognized by two VERY big local music sites here:
I’m excited to see where this goes. Omaha has been pigeon holed as an Indie rock town, thanks to the likes of Saddle Creek records and company. I just want to show there’s more to Omaha than that and we’re off to a very good start. Like the facebook page HERE to keep posted on the monthly releases. So stoked on this!
